Care Well, Wear Longer
The Boveme Menswear Care Guide
The true quality of a garment is not only how it feels the first time you wear it.
It is also how well it holds its shape, softness, color, and character after repeated wear, washing, and storage.
At Boveme, we believe well-made clothes deserve thoughtful care.
That does not mean complicated routines. In most cases, a little less heat, less frequent washing, and gentler handling can go a long way toward keeping your clothes looking and feeling their best.
Start With the Care Label
Different fabrics require different levels of care.
Before washing a garment for the first time, always check the care label inside and follow the instructions provided.
Wool, merino wool, modal, and knitted fabrics are generally more sensitive to heat, friction, and aggressive drying than everyday cotton garments.
When in doubt, cooler water and a gentler cycle are usually the better choice.
Wool & Merino Wool: Wash Less, Wear More
Wool garments do not need to be washed after every wear.
After wearing, allow the garment to air out naturally in a well-ventilated space. This can help release light moisture and everyday odors without unnecessary washing.
When cleaning is needed, use cold or cool water together with a mild or wool-specific detergent.
A gentle hand wash or the Wool / Delicate setting on your washing machine is recommended.
Avoid soaking for long periods, vigorous rubbing, twisting, or high-heat drying. Excessive heat and friction can cause wool fibers to shrink, felt, or lose their original shape.
After washing, gently press out excess water without wringing. Reshape the garment and lay it flat to dry naturally.
For wool knitwear, flat drying is generally preferable to hanging, as it helps prevent stretching.
Cotton Essentials: Keep It Cool and Gentle
Cotton T-shirts, polos, and casual tops are relatively easy to care for, but repeated high-temperature washing and drying can still accelerate fading, shrinkage, and fabric wear.
Wash dark and light colors separately whenever possible, and use cold or cool water.
For darker garments, turning them inside out before washing can help reduce surface friction and preserve the appearance of the fabric.
Whenever practical, air drying is a gentler alternative to high-heat tumble drying.
Modal & Soft Blends: Preserve the Natural Drape
Modal is valued for its softness, smooth hand feel, and fluid drape.
Because of this, it benefits from gentle treatment.
Wash in cold water on a delicate cycle and avoid aggressive spinning or twisting.
After washing, gently reshape the garment and allow it to air dry naturally.
This helps preserve the softness and relaxed structure that make modal fabrics comfortable to wear.
Knitwear Is Better Folded
Sweaters, knitted polos, and other knitwear should not be left hanging on standard hangers for long periods.
The weight of the garment can gradually stretch the body and create visible marks around the shoulders.
Once completely dry, knitwear is best folded neatly and stored flat.
If hanging is necessary for a short period, choose a broad, supportive hanger that distributes the garment's weight more evenly.
A Small Stain Does Not Always Require a Full Wash
Coffee, food, oil, and everyday spills are best treated as soon as possible.
Start by gently blotting the area with a clean cloth or paper towel. Avoid rubbing aggressively, as this can push the stain deeper into the fibers or spread it further.
A small amount of mild detergent can then be used for careful spot cleaning.
Natural fibers such as wool should always be treated gently. For stubborn stains or delicate garments, professional cleaning may be the safer option.
Sometimes, spot cleaning is better for the garment than washing the entire piece.
Washing Less Is Part of Caring Better
More washing does not necessarily mean cleaner or better-kept clothing.
For wool and knitwear in particular, there is often no need to wash a garment unless it has visible stains or noticeable odor.
Allowing garments to rest and air out between wears gives the fibers time to recover and reduces unnecessary washing.
Rotating a few well-made pieces can often help each one stay in better condition for longer.
Clean Before Seasonal Storage
Before storing garments away for several months, make sure they are clean and completely dry.
Even when clothing looks clean, traces of perspiration, body oils, or food can remain in the fibers and become more noticeable over time.
Once cleaned and fully dried, fold garments neatly and keep them in a dry, well-ventilated wardrobe away from prolonged direct sunlight.
A little preparation before storage helps ensure your clothes are ready to wear when the season returns.
Better Clothes Deserve Better Care
At Boveme, we do not design clothes to be worn for only one season.
We believe the best pieces are the ones you return to again and again—easy to wear, easy to pair, and still worth reaching for long after you first bought them.
Good fabric is where a great garment begins.
Proper care helps it last.
Wear it well. Care for it well. Keep it longer.
